4 dogs found in Pierce County school after working together to escape home

Four dogs were recently found at Spanaway Middle School after working together to escape from their home in Pierce County.

A Pierce County Sheriff’s Department (PCSD) School Resource Officer (SRO) was notified that four dogs were running loose at Spanaway Middle School. Animal Control officers weren’t on duty yet, so the resource officer responded instead.

When the SRO arrived at the school, three of the four dogs were corralled in the principal’s office. Luckily, she had leashes in her car and was able to put the dogs in the backseat.

Animal Control scanned the dogs and found that the lab, Ruger, had a microchip with up-to-date information, so they contacted his parents right away.

Ruger and his sibling’s home were then taken home and everyone, including their owners, were stumped at how exactly they escaped.

Ruger’s home had a 8-9 feet tall fence with multiple latches for extra security so how did they escape?

Officers said the dogs showed them exactly how: teamwork. They worked together to unlock the various latches and escape.

The dog owners immediately took a trip to the hardware store to search for additional security options for their canine escape artists.
