Darden School of Business students team up with the Building Goodness Foundation

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (WVIR) – Many students and staff with University of Virginia Darden School of Business were hard at work Saturday, March 30, repairing homes around Charlottesville in partnership with the Building Goodness Foundation

In the 25 years the Building Goodness Foundation has been around, it’s been able to improve more than 150 homes in Charlottesville.

Students with UVA’s Darden School of all took up different tasks to help beautify a home more than 100-years old.

“We’re doing some restoration work on this house,” graduate student Peter Hogan said, “Repairing the porch, cleaned out some debris, painting the facade.”

Courtney Polk with BFG says doing this work now impacts generations to come.

“It’s a real privilege to be able to work together to do something good in the community,” Polk said, “when you know it’s going to benefit individual families and hopefully help their families in the future.”

Polk also says the need for this kind of work continues to grow year after year.

“There’s a lot of homeowners locally that have needs in the house, have construction and repair needs,” Polk said, “A lot of these homes are older, but they don’t have the ability to do those repairs or meet those needs on their own.”

“As the cost of living grows, the opportunity to be able to make a difference in that in some small way is very impactful,” graduate student Betsy Brandon said.

Each and every one of them is grateful to be able to give back in such a meaningful way.

“As students in the Charlottesville community, I think we get so much from Charlottesville. And candidly, I think we should do a little bit more to pay it back. This is least we could do.”

The Building Goodness Foundation says it will be back bigger and better next year.
