Home-Based Education: ‘kids With Spl Needs Rely On Home-schooling’ | Lucknow News

Lucknow: A little less than half (48%) children with special needs (CwSN) identified for home-based education in UP attend school, as projected in an assessment of the home-based education carried out by Vidya Samiksha Kendra, an integrated command and control centre for real-time monitoring of schemes, students, and staff.
It was the first time feedback from parents of CwSN identified for home-based education was taken.
Home-based education is an effort of the govt nationwide to impart schooling to children with multiple and serious disabilities, at doorsteps. The assessment done through random phone calls to 5,553 parents of CwSN kids shows 46% — 2,543 kids physically or mentally unfit to go to school. The data reveals that 42%—1127 of the 2,655—get special educators at home to handhold them. Almost 70% parents said their children get special teaching-learning material (TLM) that aid in enhancing their learning outcomes.
“This is the first time we took random feedback. Several parents didn’t answer the phone call. The idea is to ensure all home-based children get proper resources so that they can make a comeback to school,” said an officer associated with inclusive education.
In all, there are 11, 261 CWSN in home-based education. Director general school education Kanchan Verma has issued directives to all basic education officers to ensure more such students are benefitted under the Samarth portal (for CWSN).
