Lucky woman plans to build dream home after winning $4M scratch-off

ROBESON COUNTY, N.C. (WECT/Gray News) – A woman in North Carolina has plans to build her dream home after winning a $4 million scratch-off prize.

“I started crying,” Carissa Jones told the North Carolina Education Lottery. “My husband was jumping up and down, and then he ran behind the counter and hugged the cashier.”

Jones was with her husband when she bought the $30 Black Titanium lottery ticket from a Quick Stop in Maxton.

“I’m going to build my dream home,” she said, adding that her brother is an architect. “He drew the plans up for me years ago. I didn’t know when it would happen but I knew it would one day. And now it can.”

Jones chose to take the lump sum of $2.4 million and was left with $1,716,009 after required state and federal tax withholdings.

Jones told lottery officials that she also plans to donate some of her winnings to her church.
