Manistee Library offers conservation program to homeschoolers

Manistee County Library is scheduled to offer “Conservation for Homeschoolers” in an ongoing effort to help support the educational efforts of homeschooling families. This informational presentation is free and open to the public, and will be held at 1 p.m. on April 17. Registration is required. Students and families may sign up by visiting the full library calendar of events at manisteelibrary.org.

“We are delighted to welcome passionate local conservationist Pamela Blair to speak with the children. She plans to discuss the proactive steps they can take against climate change by practicing conservation in their daily lives,” youth services coordinator Angie Fischer said.

Students will partake in a short presentation, a walking tour to view climate change-themed dioramas on display and then children will choose supplies to create their own dioramas. Students will be invited to return their dioramas to the library for public display.

Blair began working on the Diorama Climate Change project in 2019, with the goal to educate all ages on the serious matter of climate change without fear and anxiety. The dioramas act as a catalyst for discussion on how everyone can do their part to help keep the planet healthy and vibrant.

“I am so very excited, at last, to display the full 26 linear foot collection of dioramas at the Manistee County Library. But best of all, along with Angie Fischer, the Youth Services Coordinator, I will share this project with local homeschoolers and provide them with the materials to make their own climate change dioramas. I am hoping for a robust turnout of home school children and youth, along with their home school teacher,” Blair said.

The entire collection of climate change dioramas are currently on display within the library. Student dioramas are due to be on display from April 22 until May 11.
