Nearly 200 homeschool and private school students enjoy prom at Orchard Farms | MyStateline

ROCKFORD, Ill. (WTVO) — Homeschool and private school students had their chance to go to prom at the pavilion of Orchard Farms on April 5th.

“I’m planning on dancing with some friends and just kind of hanging out and having a party,” said Sophmore Parker Carter.

Almost 200 home-schooled and private school students had a chance to celebrate one of the most special nights for anyone in school.

“I did not think I was going to be able to have a prom,” said Carter. “But I found out last year like super last minute, and I was super excited that I would get the chance to come to a prom.”

The prom is entirely funded by ticket purchases. Organizers are all volunteers hoping to put on a memorable night.

“Every year leading in it gets to be a lot of work. But then when the night happens and you see the kids and they enjoy it so much and it’s a great group of kids, they are so gracious and appreciative of it,” said Organizer Kathy Lewellen. “So we go home feeling like a million bucks. It’s a lot of fun.”

The pavilion at Orchard Farms provided the perfect backdrop for prom photos, the DJ was on the dance floor and the prom king and queen were set to be voted on.

Students said the best part of the night was the dancing.

“I try to do a worm dance. I couldn’t totally failed, but then I was like, I’ll do it if you do it,” said homeschool students Ben and Lucas. “I butchered it, but this year I’ve been practicing. I’m going to nail it.”
