GREENVILLE COUNTY, S.C. (WSPA) – A Greenville County School bus crashed into a mobile home Monday morning in Travelers Rest.

This morning started out like any other day for Kathleen Crosby, a Stamey Valley Road resident.

“Lying in bed I heard a noise, thought it was a plane falling from the sky and I jumped out of the bed and my god and what did I see a bus ran into the trailer in my front yard,” Crosby said.

Crosby told 7NEWS that the trailer is owned by her family, and she never imagined waking up to see it destroyed, “it’s heartbreaking.”

The South Carolina Highway Patrol said the bus was traveling west on Stamey Valley Road when it traveled off the right side of the road, overcorrected and crossed over both lanes of traffic on the left side of the road, hitting a mailbox, fence and the mobile home.

Officials said two students were on board the bus at the time of the crash, but no injuries were reported.

Neighbors say luckily no one was inside the trailer during the accident.

“I received a call at 7:45 a.m. from my mom telling me to come up here that the bus had crashed into the mobile home. So, when I got here, like I said it was a lot of police officers here, there was an ambulance here and there were two kids with the bus driver which they weren’t hurt which was our main concern that nobody lost their life,” Tonya Mateo, Crosby’s daughter said.

Cosby said they lost countless sentimental items, “a lot of my mother’s valuable things that I cherished of hers because I am an old soul. I like old things.”

Crosby said the mobile home was filled with the antiques she had collected over the years, and she would use the home as a place to relax.

“A lot of memories there, I had a lot of memories with my mother and my grandmothers,” Crosby added. “I would go down there and just relax just to get away and just relax.”

South Carolina Highway Patrol tells us the bus driver was cited with driving too fast for conditions.
