St Gregory’s children discover all creatures great and small – The Isle Of Thanet News

A visit to Wingham Wildlife Park for St Gregory’s children

Animals and their habitats is a fascinating topic that has enthralled young children at St Gregory’s Catholic Primary in Margate.

So where better to find out more than a trip to the acclaimed Wingham Wildlife Park where they had a fantastic experience meeting and watching an array of diverse creatures great and small as well as learning all about how they live and the adaptations that they have to ensure their survival.

The mini adventure led young explorers from the school’s Key Stage 1 group to investigate a varied range of animals safely yet at close quarters.

Assistant Head Teacher Clare Sellwood said: “Nearly 100 children enjoyed their visit that further supported their learning from their geography and science topics about animals and their habitats.

“All the children enjoyed a talk from a keeper about different animal habitats. They asked some excellent questions based on their prior knowledge from the learning undertaken at school.  Their behaviour was exemplary.”

Head Teacher Dave Walker added: “Visiting the wildlife park gave an extra dimension to this topic. It created added enthusiasm for the work being covered, and there was a real sense of awe and wonder from our children.”

Wingham Wildlife Park covers an area of 26 acres and features hundreds of species covering fish, mammals, reptiles, amphibians, invertebrates and birds. Find out more online at
